HOSPITAL MEDICAL STAFF LEADERSHIP
Dr. Santore has been involved in leadership positions since the early stages of his career.
He was selected as academic chief resident of orthopaedic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and received an appointment to the faculty of the Harvard Medical School. He was elected as Chief of the Orthopaedic Surgery Section of Sharp Memorial Hospital in the 1990's and was later elected as Secretary-Treasurer, Chief of Staff-Elect and Chief of Staff of the medical staff of 1,200 physicians. As Chief of Staff, he was responsible for the oversight of the peer review committees of all of the medical and surgical departments, attended all of the sentinel event review meetings, Quality Council meetings, was chairman of the monthly meetings of the Medical Executive Committee and was a voting member of the Board of Directors of the hospital. He was responsible for final decision making with regard to corrective actions, including, but not limited to, expulsion from the medical staff.
He was Chief of Staff during the opening of the new hospital, a full Joint Commission Survey and implementation of the electronic health record for the hospital. During this time he maintained a full-time orthopaedic surgery practice. He continues to serve on the committee of past Chiefs of Staff and current hospital executives and medical staff leadership where he is invited to give input to current developments.
